How to calculate work hours
Enter the time you started and ended work for each day. If you took an unpaid lunch or other unpaid break, enter the number of break minutes. The calculator subtracts unpaid breaks and totals your hours for the week.
If a shift ends after midnight, enter the actual start and end times. The calculator treats an end time earlier than the start time as an overnight shift.
Regular hours and overtime
The default overtime threshold is set to 40 hours per week and the default overtime multiplier is 1.5×. You can change either field to match the calculation you want to estimate.
Estimated gross pay
Hourly pay is optional. If you enter a rate, the calculator estimates gross pay using regular and overtime hours. The result is before taxes, deductions or other payroll adjustments.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate hours worked with a lunch break?
Enter your start time and end time, then enter the unpaid lunch break in minutes. The break is deducted automatically.
Can I calculate an overnight shift?
Yes. If the end time is earlier than the start time, the calculator treats the shift as crossing midnight.
Does this calculate overtime?
Yes. The default threshold is 40 weekly hours at 1.5 times the regular hourly rate. Both settings can be changed.
Does this calculate taxes?
No. Estimated gross pay is before taxes and deductions.
